Banco de Gaia
The acid house movement of late-'80s Britain may have inspired Toby Marks to turn to electronic music, but it's Eastern and Arabic music that have been the primary influences on his recorded music under the name Banco de Gaia. Banco de Gaia first released his exotic brand of electronica on cassette in the early '90s, through an artist network called Planet Dog; he put out his first disc, the Desert Wind EP, in 1993, when Planet Dog became a record label. Banco de Gaia's first full-length, Maya, followed in 1994; Last Train to Lhasa came in '95. 1997 saw the release of a live concert album, Live at Glastonbury, which was followed in 1999 by The Magical Sounds of Banco de Gaia. Banco de Gaia released Igizeh in late 2000. |
