Mark Lanegan
Along with brothers Van and Gary Lee Conner, Mark Lanegan formed Screaming Trees in Ellensburg, WA in the mid-80's. The Trees recorded several albums for Velvetone Records and SST Records before signing with Epic Records in 1989. During the early 90's, the band was propelled into the mainstream as a result of the "Seattle Phenomenon" with bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. During hectic touring schedules and Trees album recordings, Lanegan managed to record a series of solo records for Sub Pop Records. Straying from his band's big guitar crunch and alt/rock thrust, Lanegan's solo projects opt for a dark-sounding acoustic journey through blues, folk and country sounds. Lyrically, Lanegan provides candid and brutally honest snippets from his somewhat tumultuous past. Mark Lanegan has released four critically acclaimed solo records on Sub Pop: The Winding Sheet (1992), Whiskey For The Holy Ghost (1994), Scraps At Midnight (1998) and I'll Take Care Of You (1999). |

Folksy acoustic guitars along with a gritty growl may not translate into beauty for some, but Mark Lanegan has a way of incorporating these musical facets to make a purely simplistic, but beautiful song.
