Pinetop Perkins
Best known for his 1970s stint with the Muddy Waters Band, Pinetop Perkins also pounded the eighty-eights for such blues greats as Robert Nighthawk, Sonny Boy Williamson II and Earl Hooker, all of whom greatly appreciated Pinetop's fluid way with a boogie-woogie. Born in 1913 in Belzoni, Mississippi, Pinetop was originally a rather talented guitarist, but an arm injury -- received at the hands of a knife-wielding chorus girl -- forced him to switch instruments. After working as a sideman for over fifty years, Pinetop finally began releasing records of his own in the late 1980s. |
