DJ Hurricane
Born in Hollis, Queens, DJ Hurricane (born Wendell Fite) started flexing his MC skills when he was only 11. He formed two short-lived rap groups before signing on as a bodyguard for fellow Hollis b-boys Run DMC. During the 1986 Raising Hell tour, Hurricane helped out the opening act by sitting in when their DJ left. That's how Hurricane became the turntable sound of the Beastie Boys, a vocation that lasted well into the '90s. His solo debut, The Hurra, appeared in 1995, and his second effort is due in spring 2000. |
