Zen Guerrilla
Of the hundreds of bands who claim to be deeply influenced by the high-energy sounds of The MC5 and The Stooges, Zen Guerilla is one of the few to really walk it like they talk it. Formed in Delaware nearly a decade ago, the quartet did some time in Philadelphia before lighting out for San Francisco in 1995. Once there, they found a staunch ally in former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra, who was so taken by the band's "hardcore Motown" sound that he signed them to his Alternative Tentacles imprint. Indeed, Zen Guerilla's live performances combine the fervor of an old-time tent revival with the skull-crushing volume of a vintage Blue Cheer show, and the ferocity certainly carries over onto their recordings. |
