Lambchop
Melding elements of country music and orchestral pop with the odd vocal style of leader Kurt Wagner, LAMBCHOP creates some of indie rock's most unusual sounds. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Wagner hails from Nashville, where he soaked up the influence of '70s mainstream country stars like Charlie Rich and Tammy Wynette. He formed LAMBCHOP in 1986 under a different name, choosing its current moniker in 1993. The band often served as a backing group for indie luminaries touring through Nashville, and in the late '90s became known for its recordings and performances with Vic Chesnutt. LAMBCHOP's membership fluxuates, but there are usually about 10 players working tubas, steel-pedal guitar, organ, vibes, and any number of other instruments. |
