Propellerheads
Propellerheads (in-group slang for "computer geeks") is a dynamic duo comprised of keyboardist/bassist/turntablist DJ Alex Gifford and phunky drummer/turntablist DJ Will White. Their first EP, Dive (1996) combined spastic, bombastic big-beat sounds (think Chemical Brothers), with other dance genres and a shared love for spy-movie jazz. Dive’s title track was later used for a popular Adidas TV ad, which led to an offer to a remix of the James Bond theme "On Her Majesty’s Secret Service," for David Arnold’s 007 project, Shaken and Stirred . This became the Prop’s first UK Top Five hit and paved the way for a major-label weaselfest; they signed with Dreamworks, and in early ‘98, released their full-length debut, Decksandrumsandrockandroll , to commercial/critical success, propelled by a MTV-modern rock hit, "History Repeating" (with vocals by Bond chanteuse Shirley Bassey). |
