Poison
Though it seems incredible, for about 3 years in the late-'80s, Poison were one of the biggest bands in the land, selling millions of records -- and selling out arenas with their high energy, David Lee Roth inspired stage antics. Formed in '83 by Pennsylvania natives Bret Michaels (vocals), Rikki Rockett (drums) and Bobby Dall (bass), the group found success -- and an outrageous lead guitarist, CC DeVille -- on the metal-friendly Sunset Strip of Los Angeles. Their double-platinum 1986 debut, Look What The Cat Dragged In, still defines the Poison formula -- hooky, singalong anthems combined with an ultra glam look and an insatiable taste for rock 'n roll party life. 1988's Open Up & Say. . .Ahh! and 1990's Flesh and Blood kept the hit train rolling full steam, before the usual drug problems and egos forced the ouster of guitarist DeVille. The band chugged on with LA scene stalwart Ritchie Kotzen on guitar chores, but by the time they released the disappointing Native Tongue (1993), the group's moment was over. With the advent of the Seattle sound, Poison and their ilk found themselves unwanted and obsolete almost overnight. By 1997, Poison seemed a dead issue, though a newly sober CC DeVille was invited to rejoin the group. Still, a successful reunion tour in the summer of '99 couldn't keep the acrimony at bay, and the group once again disbanded amid bruised egos and ugly accusations -- fortunately, few people cared enough to turn it into a genuine media fiasco. The band kicked out 2 releases in 2000: Crack a Smile. . .and More!, a shelved record from early '96, cobbled together with a generous portion of unreleased material, and Power To The People, a collection of half-new/half-live tracks. |

This track from the great "lost" Poison album (snicker) finds the boys attempting to meld grunge with their usual "Ain't blowjobs great?" party 'tude. ...Nice try.
