Camper Van Beethoven
Formed in Redlands, California, and germinated in the college/beach town of Santa Cruz, Camper Van Beethoven rose from the ashes of early ‘80s band The Estonian Gauchos. With its 1985 debut album, Telephone Free Landslide Victory, Camper Van Beethoven took its unique folk-styled punk to a national audience. Jokey, fiddle-laced acoustic ditties like “Take the Skinheads Bowling” earned CVB the role of court jester to the ‘80s Amer-Indie scene. The band dissolved in the middle of a 1990 European tour, and singer/guitarist David Lowery went on to form the successful alt-rock outfit Cracker. In 2000, the rarities collection Camper Van Beethoven is Dead... Long Live Camper Van Beethoven was released. |
