Guster
A veritable DIY fairy tale, Guster’s success can be credited solely to the band’s catchy brand of pop music. Formed in 1992, the band went on to win multiple awards in the Boston area, all without a major-label contract. The trio of Ryan Miller (guitar/vocals), Adam Gardner (guitar/vocals) and Brian Rosenworcel (percussion) first met at Tufts University, and began playing in the Boston area under the name Gus. Changing their name to Guster, they independently released Parachute in 1994, which the Boston Globe named Best Local Debut Album in 1995. They followed Parachute with Goldfly in 1997, the same year they won Best Live Act at the Boston Music Awards. Music aside, however, the band believes much of its ability to sell out clubs across the nation comes from its loyal fans, who distribute flyers and spread the word on a voluntary basis. Signing a deal with Sire Records/Hybrid Recordings in 1998, Guster released Lost and Gone Forever on Sire in 1999. |
