A quintet from Ohio, Hookah draws on the traditions of psychedelic rock while voyaging into the depths of improvisation. Fueled by the stand-out creative forces of keyboardist Dave Katz and lead guitarist Steve Sweney, ekoostik hookah weave a sonic tapestry of patient, freeform jams. From their first release, Under Full Sail, to their sixth and most recent effort, Sharp in the Flats (an allusion to the popular Cleveland nightlife region), the band has steadily won over the loyalty of a groove-hungry generation of music fans. The group, which also includes bass player Cliff Starbuck, rhythm guitarist Ed McGee and drummer Eric Lanese, has also achieved positive notoriety from their bi-annual festival, Hookahville, which has featured notable acts including Merl Saunders, Leftover Salmon and Jazz Mandolin Project.
