Carefully selecting some of the top musicians on the scene at the time, Django's original intent was to record a four song 7-inch exploring the roots of traditional ska music. When that 7-inch (the Old's Cool EP) and the album that followed (1995's Open Season) proved extremely popular, the band became a semi-permanent outfit. SAS record around a nucleus of players based in New York's Version City studios, including Victor Ruggiero (the Slackers, keys), "Agent" Jay Nugent (ex-Agent 99, guitar), and Victor Rice (ex-Scofflaws/New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, bass).
