Welcome !
    Mission of Burma
Formed in 1979 by Roger Miller (guitar/vocals), Clint Conley (bass/vocals) Peter Prescott,(drums/vocals) and Martin Swope (tape loops), Mission Of Burma were part of a “college rock” movement that transformed American music. As with fellow indie-rockers REM, Husker Du, The Replacements, and Black Flag, Mission Of Burma meshed elements of punk and pop together to create their own driving, lyrical sound. With the release of the signals, calls and marches EP in 1981 -- a landmark document that contained "Academy Fight Song" and the oft-covered "That’s When I Reach For My Revolver" -- the band had found a balance between urgency of punk and melody of pop. From the hammered frustration of "Revolver" to the sprawling instrumental "All World Cowboy Romance", the EP sent shock waves that are still being felt 20 years later. They released only one full-length album after that -- 1982's VS (Miller’s volume-related hearing damage forced them to call it quits in 1983), but even though their output was small, Mission Of Burma are still hailed as a major influence by many bands who followed. Roger Miller went on to form the more avant Birdsongs of the Mesozoic with Swope, and drummer Peter Prescott did time in Volcano Suns, as well as in various solo projects. But it is the handful of songs they created in the early 1980's that will continue to endear the Boston quartet to fans who demand confrontation, challenge, and passion from their music -- all of which Mission Of Burma delivered in spades.
