The Pharcyde The four former breakdancers known as The Pharcyde -- Tre "Slim Kid" Hardson, Imani "Darky Boy" Wilcox, Romye "Booty Brown" Robinson and Derrick "Fat Lip" Stewart -- hit the scene in the early ‘90s with bugged-out mic styles and humorous lyrics. Amidst all the macho posturing and gangsta-ism that was rampant in L.A. in the wake of the success of NWA’s Niggaz4life, The Pharcyde were an anomaly. Their first album, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde (1992) spawned the singles “Ya Mama” and “Passin’ Me By.” The latter was a hit, and put the group on the map. A second album, Labcabincalifornia (’95) took on a more serious tone, and didn’t fare as well. In recent years, Tre and Fat Lip left to pursue other projects, while Imani and Romye carried on the Pharcyde torch, continuing to be release indie material on the underground. |

| Deliciously funkadelic rap from South Central collective is gleefully good-natured and playfully exuberant. Sure, it’s a lyrical ode to lingerie, but the thick soul groove more than makes up for the goofy storyline. |
