David Gray
Manchester born singer/songwriter David Gray began his music career in London after attending university and playing in punk bands in Liverpool. His debut album A Century Ends (Hut Records U.K./Caroline Records U.S.) was released in 1993 to glowing reviews and a smattering of airplay. Flesh, his 1994 follow-up, also received positive reviews and expanded his audience. His third album Sell, Sell, Sell, released in '96, failed to do just that. But in March of this year, musician Dave Matthews released Gray's '98 self-released/home recorded White Ladder on his new indie label ATO for the U.S. It looks like a smart move on Matthews' part, as the album had already gone five times platinum, topped the Top 30 Irish charts for five weeks, and won countless critics' polls in Ireland for '99. |
