John Hiatt
Born in 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana, John Hiatt began his musical career right after high school, when he moved to Nashville to become a professional songwriter. But while all of his records -- beginning with 1974's Hangin' Around The Observatory -- have received copious amounts of critical acclaim, it wasn't until 1987's Bring The Family that Hiatt managed to break through to the commercial mainstream. Often described as an American counterpart to Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe, Hiatt tends to place his wry observations in rootsy musical settings. Lowe and guitarist Ry Cooder actually played on Bring The Family and 1988's Slow Turning; in 1992, the three made an album together as Little Village. To date, Hiatt's biggest claim to fame is that he wrote "Thing Called Love," which Bonnie Raitt covered on her Grammy-winning Nick Of Time LP. |

Alt-Country, Rock |
A touching acoustic pledge of devotion from the eternal critic's darling. The lyrics are pretty hackneyed, but the sweet dobro picking more than makes up for 'em!
