An acoustic trio from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Violent Femmes got their big break when Chrissie Hynde saw them playing on a street corner and invited them to open for the Pretenders. Though hardly a blockbuster at the time of its release, band's self-titled 1983 debut is now considered a classic by lovers of eighties music.
