King Kooba
Charlie Tate and DJ Shuff (a.k.a. Matt Harris) founded electronic group King Kooba in the mid-'90s. Tate had honed his skills as bassist for the funk band the Big Cheese Allstars, as well as with Neneh Cherry and Howie B. Harris, meanwhile, had been DJing in London and Europe. The duo combined their skills and, with the addition of a full ensemble, recorded first the EP, Headpoppa, and later The Imperial Solution LP. A few singles and another LP, Enter the Throne Room, followed. King Kooba released NuFoundFunk on San Francisco's Om Records in 2000. |
