Ludacris
The first artist signed to Def Jam South, Ludacris was picked from a crop of up-and-comers to bring the taste of southern-fried funk to hip-hop’s legendary New York-based label. He got his contract with Def Jam after the horny single “What’s Your Fantasy”topped local radio charts in Atlanta and began to blow up across the south and Midwest. Ludacris then came under the wing of Dirty South vet Scarface, the new label’s head, and began work on his debut album. Featuring tracks produced by heavy hitters like Organized Noize, Timbaland, the Neptunes (the team behind Mystikal’s recent Number One smash “Shake Ya Ass”) and Jermaine Dupri, Back For the First Time dropped in November 2000. |
