Russell Simins
Though he's often been confused with rap mogul Russell Simmons, Russell Simins has quite a happenin' musical career of his own. In addition to drumming with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, he's appeared on records by R.L. Burnside, Andre Williams, Ween, Yoko Ono, Luscious Jackson, Butter 08 and Crunt. A frequent contributor to the Beastie Boys' now-defunct fanzine Grand Royal, Simins is also one of the world's foremost experts on "Weird Al" Yankovic. Public Places, Simins' first solo record, was released in late 2000, and features contributions from members of the Beasties, Cibo Matto, and Luscious Jackson, as well as Wilson-Phillps' Chynna Phillips and her sister Bijou. |
