Pat Metheny Trio
One of the most popular guitarists in the world of contemporary jazz, Pat Metheny has managed to keep his audience while consistently challenging himself. Born August 12, 1954 in the Kansas City suburb of Lees Summit, Missouri, Metheny picked up the guitar at the age of thirteen; within six years, he completed course work at the University of Miami and Boston's Berklee School of Music, and landed a gig with vibraphonist Gary Burton. He recorded his first album, Bright Size Life, in 1975 with bassist Jaco Pastorious and drummer Bob Moses. Since then, Metheny has performed or recorded with a variety of stellar musicians, including Sonny Rollins, Dewey Redman, Hubert Laws, Julius Hemphill, Jack DeJohnette, Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden, Ornette Coleman, Milton Nascimento, Herbie Hancock, Steve Reich, Joshua Redman, Bruce Hornsby, Joni Mitchell and Trilok Gurtu. His twenty-third album, Pat Metheny Trio Live, was released in 2000. |
