Monica
Precocious Atlanta singer Monica Arnold introduced herself to the nation at the tender of age of 15, with her major label debut Miss Thang in 1995. It generated two big hits, "Don't Take It Personal (Just One Of Dem Days)" and "Before You Walk Out of My Life,” and Monica’s name gained additional buzz that year with her guest appearance on LL Cool J’s Mr. Smith. She also supplied backing vocals for fellow Georgian Usher’s 1997 debut, then broke back out in a big way by teaming up with fellow teen dream Brandy. Their duet, “The Boy Is Mine,” was one of 1998’s biggest singles, and became the title track for Monica’s sophomore album that year, produced by R&B vet Dallas Austin. Monica got her first starring role alongside Christian Kane (of WB’s Angel) in the MTV original movie Love Story, which featured a bunch of cameos by musician types (TLC’s Chilli, producer Austin, Tyrese, etc.) and premiered in December 2000. |

Missing from Miss Thang’s latest: the freshness that made you wanna be the boy in “The Boy Is Mine.” Her ever-improving set of pipes (check the evidence) deserves better.
