Welcome !
    Eek-A-Mouse
The reggae legend known as Eek-A-Mouse was born in the Trenchtown ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica in the mid-1950s. He started singing in elementary school, and cut his first songs ("My Father's Land" and "Creation") in 1974, at the age of 17. Taking his stage name from a horse he constantly lost money betting on (and which started winning immediately after he swore off betting on it!), the Mouse cut his breakthrough hit, "Wa-Do-Dem," in 1981. He quickly became known for his unique singing style, a form of reggae that became known as "sing-jay," a hybrid of singing and toasting (or dee-jaying). The song topped the charts in both Jamaica and the UK, and an opening slot on that year's Reggae Sunsplash Festival established the Mouse as an up-and-coming star, leading to the release of his first full-length album, also called Wa-Do-Dem, the following year.

The Mouse also quickly became known for his humor. While like many reggae artists, his music contains a social message, Mouse was famed for a satirical bent to his lyrics, finding the humor in the direst of situations. He's equally known for his on-stage flamboyance, appearing dressed as everything from a gladiator to a pirate to a Mexican bandit to (while appearing in Nottingham, England) Robin Hood.

The Mouse continued to record and tour prolifically throughout the '80s and '90s, with albums such as 1984's Mouseketeer, 1988's Mouse A Mania, and 1995's Black Cowboy keeping him in the spotlight as one of reggae's most respected and beloved modern figures.
