Welcome !
    Steel Pulse
Influenced by Jamaica's roots-reggae giants of the early 70s, the members of Steel Pulse made reggae history of their own later that decade, springing from the ghettos of Birmingham, England to worldwide acclaim. The band's politically-themed 1978 debut Handsworth Revolution became a favorite of both Bob Marley and British punks; two subsequent albums on Island Records kept up the momentum. By the early 80s, the band had broken through in America, but -- like many reggae acts of the time -- began pursuing a slicker sound. It may have helped the group win a Grammy (for 1986's Babylon the Bandit album), but turned off long-time fans. A label change to MCA resulted in the poorly-selling State of Emergency, and by the early 90s, the band was adrift. They returned to Jamaica to record the better-received, less glossy Vex in 1994; the band's latest is the live effort Living Legacy, released in summer 1999. Recorded for Tuff Gong, the label started by the group’s old friend, Marley, “Living Legacy” showcased the band’s return to its roots and picked up a 2000 “Best Reggae Album” Grammy nomination.

Steel Pulse Black Enough PlayJ Reggae
The real question is, is this superslick live cut rough enough? Maybe not; the glossy sound glosses over the in-your-face message from a black man.

Steel Pulse Bootstraps MP3 Reggae
Quicken your Pulse with this soaring, optimistic live track. These reggae “Bootstraps” just might pull you up!

Steel Pulse Ku Klux Klan (Live) WinMedia Reggae
Great live performances are hard to find, but Steel Pulse gives a good shot at it with their roosty jungle rendition of the song "Ku Klux Klan." It may not be stellar, but at least it's different.
