Bobby Rush
Though he tends to be classified as a purveyor of "Soul Blues," Bobby Rush prefers to call his music "Folk-Funk." Born November 10, 1940 in Homer, Louisiana, Bobby moved with his family to Chicago in the mid-50s, and received his musical education on the city's West Side blues circuit. Originally a fairly conventional blues singer and harmonica player, Bobby found a greater audience once he gravitated towards raunchier, more soul-oriented material. His live shows still pack plenty of bluesy punch, however, and he's received many "Outstanding Live Performer" awards from prominent blues publications. |
