Warren Haynes (vocals, guitar) and bassist Allen Woody spent much of the nineties as members of the Allman Brothers Band; though Gov't Mule was originally conceived as a side project -- the happy result of an informal 1994 jam session with drummer pal Matt Abst -- Haynes and Woody eventually decided to make "The Mule" their full-time gig. Their hard-jamming, anything-goes live shows have inspired a legion of rabid fans, many of whom have set up websites devoted to trading tapes and compiling setlists.
