Gov't Mule
A power trio with influences ranging from hard rock to deep blues and classic jazz, Gov't Mule is hardly your average Southern Rock combo. Warren Haynes (vocals, guitar) and bassist Allen Woody spent much of the nineties as members of the Allman Brothers Band; though Gov't Mule was originally conceived as a side project -- the happy result of an informal 1994 jam session with drummer pal Matt Abst -- Haynes and Woody eventually decided to make "The Mule" their full-time gig. Their hard-jamming, anything-goes live shows have inspired a legion of rabid fans, many of whom have set up websites devoted to trading tapes and compiling setlists. The trio's 1998 release, Live -- With A Little Help From Our Friends, captures the magic of The Mule in all its ornery glory |
