Wayne Hancock
Wayne Hancock Wayne Hancock may not be as high-profile as some of his contemporaries, but his contribution to the alt-country canon is already legendary. Though his sound is decidedly old school -- country at its twangiest and most nasal -- Hancock's scrappy persona and unrestrained delivery make him the perfect honkytonk hero for any era. His first album, 1995's Thunderstorms and Neon Signs, was one of the most distinctive country debuts of the last decade, a laundry list of Wayne's time-honored, heartfelt obsessions -- girls, good times, hotrods and honkytonks. Subsequent albums haven't reinvented the wheel, but they've added up to one hell of a ride. |
