Chris Duarte
A musical fixture in his adopted home of Austin, Texas, Chris Duarte has been playing the guitar professionally since the age of 18. Interested in music from an early age, Chris picked up his first axe when he was in junior high school; four years later, with dreams of a musical career dancing in his head, he moved from his hometown of San Antonio to Austin. He spent most of the '80s as a sideman with various Austin bands, and gradually expanded his style to include various forms of blues. In 1991, after a year-long hiatus in New Hampshire (where he'd moved in order to sort out a nagging drug problem), Chris returned to Austin and formed the Chris Duarte Group with bassist John Jordan and drummer Jeff Hodges. Several drummers have come and gone since then, but the band has still managed to put out three well-received albums (including 1997's Tailspin Headwhack) and has established a strong national following. |
