Pantera
Together since 1982, these Dallas boys experimented with several unsatisfying strains of metal before finally forging a recognizable sonic identity on 1990's Cowboys From Hell. Over the course of the '90s, Pantera established themselves as one of the hardest and heaviest acts around; Dimebag Darrell's punishing guitar riffs and Phil Anselmo's vein-popping vocals inspired a whole new generation of metal bands, and found favor with an ever-growing legion of fans. Reinventing the Steel, Pantera's first studio album since 1996's The Great Southern Trendkill, debuted at #4 on the Billboard album charts in March 2000. |
