The Dwarves
One of the most notorious punk bands of the early '90s, the Dwarves started out in Illinois as a regulation garage band called The Suburban Nightmare. After relocating to Seattle, the quartet -- Blag Dahlia (who scooped Ol' Dirty Bastard by several years in occasionally adopting the surname Jesus), Vadge Moore, Salt Peter, and He Who Cannot Be Named -- signed to Sub Pop. Their three albums for the label coincided with the grunge explosion, yet the Dwarves put more stock in shock than in angst -- when the band wasn't indulging in outrageous stunts, it fabricated stories about indulging in outrageous stunts. Sub Pop finally pulled the plug after one particularly elaborate hoax in which the Dwarves issued a press release about the (fictional) death of He Who Cannot Be Named. The band broke up after the release of 1993's Sugarfix, but re-formed in 1997 with its confrontational attitude intact. |

Punk |
The Dwarves may be short, but they sure ain't sweet -- except on this surprisingly non-combative track. Have punk rock's favorite shockmeisters gone soft? Hardly...
