The Crystal Method
Starting out in Las Vegas as bedroom producers making rudimentary house music, Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland relocated to Los Angeles in the early ‘90s. Calling themselves The Crystal Method, Jordan and Kirkland became devoted members of LA’s burgeoning rave scene. By 1994, the rave community found itself under attack, and this became the subject of The Crystal Method’s debut single, “Keep Hope Alive,” which spawned endless remixes. Like the Chemical Brothers and the Prodigy, Jordan and Kirkland’s music included a fair amount of rock influence, which carried over to its live act. Thus, when major labels decided that dance music would be the next big thing in the mid-‘90s, the Crystal Method were a natural choice for the Geffen affiliate Outpost. Concocted in the duo’s LA studio, the Bomb Shelter, the debut full-length Vegas appeared in 1997. A grueling, year-long tour helped turn the record gold, launching the singles “Busy Child” and “Trip Like I Do.” |
