BT
Born Brian Transeau, BT is largely credited with pioneering trance, or dream house, in the early to mid-'90s. The Washington, D.C. native joined with the Deep Dish production team in the early '90s; by 1993, he had released two singles, "A Moment of Truth" and "Relativity," on the Deep Dish label. The tracks quickly became hits over in Britain, often played by British DJ greats like Sasha and Paul Oakenfold. He signed to Oakenfold's Perfecto label in 1995, releasing his debut, Ima, soon after. His partnering with Tori Amos on the single "Blue Skies" finally gained him recognition back home; the track went to No. 1 on the Billboard dance charts in 1996. BT began to distance himself from trance on his second album, ESCM, just as the genre was starting to take off commercially. He continued this shift away from trance on his third album, Movement in Still Life, which he released in 2000. |
