Papa Roach
Formed in 1993 in the Northern California town of Vacaville ("The Onion Capital of the World"), Papa Roach finally broke through to the big time seven years later, when the video for their single "Last Resort" became a surprise MTV hit. Though they've generally been lumped in with the whole "rap-rock" movement, Papa Roach play a cathartic mixture of hip-hop, punk and funk that's considerably more hook-oriented than your typical backwards-baseball-cap band. In addition, lead singer Coby Dick's sincere lyrical approach makes a refreshing contrast to the willfully moronic posturings of folks like Fred Durst. Infest, Papa Roach's DreamWorks debut, has already gone platinum, and the band is currently gearing up for a national tour supporting Limp Bizkit and Eminem. |

This California quartet takes a crack at a metal-band rite of passage: The anti-suicide song. Unfortunately, they’re shooting blanks.
