Earth Crisis
Melding the vegan/straight-edge/environmentally conscious elements of hardcore punk with a ballzout thrash attack, Earth Crisis are a metal subgenre unto themselves. Formed in 1989 in Syracuse, NY, by vocalist Karl Buechner, Earth Crisis was conceived as an outlet to expresses the singer’s discontent with the escalating social ills of our culture. The group’s first three releases, the EPs All Out War and Firestorm, and the full length Destroy The Machines (all released in ’95 on the Victory label) were well-received in the metal community, and sparked a significant grass roots following. Though numerous critics have dogged the band for focusing on “message over music,” the group’s sincerity (and full-throttle metal attack) speaks volumes to their ever-growing audience. After a brief stint on Roadrunner Records, who released 1998’s Breed The Killers, Earth Crisis re-signed with Victory and released Slither in summer 2000. |
