Welcome !
    Greyboy with Karl Denson
Rising to national attention after winning a 1989 DJ competition, turntablist Greyboy (born Andreas Stevens) soon morphed himself into a recording artist, surrounding himself with jazz musicians to create acid-jazz and rare groove influenced works. While searching for old soul and jazz records, he hooked up with the owners of San Francisco's renowned Groove Merchant record store, who also owned the newly formed Ubiquity label. After playing them his 1992 debut, Greybreaks, he was asked to produce a few tracks for the Home Cookin' compilation (1993). His original melding of jazz, hip-hop and freestyling beats is still unmatched, as proved on the Ubiquity releases Freestylin' (1994), Land of the Lost (1996) and 1998's Vol. 1 -- Greybreaks. Saxman Karl Denson hooked up with drummer Zak Najor in 1993 to form the Greyboy Allstars -- a kind of house band for Denson's Greyboy Records, a label he started with Greyboy. The two rounded out the lineup of stellar musicians with Robert Walter on keys, Eldgin Parks on guitar, and Chris Stillwell on bass. Combining jazz, funk, boogaloo and an original West Coast groove, the Allstars went on to release several albums including West Coast Boogaloo in 1994, and A Town Called Earth and Live, both in 1997. Much to the chagrin of the funk and jazz fans who formed a strong grassroots fanbase, the Allstars eventually called it quits, splitting off into "sidecar" projects Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and Robert Walter's 20th Congress.
