sHEAVY
Though 1994 marked the first official year of sHEAVY's career, it wasn't until two years later that the band would make their full-length debut, Blue Sky Mind. Released by indie-label Dallas Tarr, the album displayed a band comfortable with fusing Black Sabbath-styled doom metal and Kyuss-esque hard psychedelia -- before the term "stoner-metal" became flavor-of-the-moment. While their contemporaries took a more derivative route, sHEAVY continued to cultivate their style and eventually hooked up with Cathedral leader Lee Dorian's Rise Above Records. Their second album, The Electric Sleep, was released in early '98 to glowing reviews, even in non-metal magazines like Alternative Press. In the spring of 2000, the band's third album, Celestial Hi-Fi, saw the light of day and subsequently met even better reviews. |

A hypnotic mountain of sound, "Persona" overwhelms with an elephantine stomp. Extra points for the Ozzy-soundalike!
