The Dillinger Escape Plan
Dillinger Escape Plan formed in New Jersey during the spring of 1997, coming from a predominantly hardcore punk background. Through heavy DIY touring and a very underground self-titled MCD, the then-quartet eventually generated a big enough buzz that Relapse Records offered them a contract. The Plan soon added another member and proceeded to record a "demo," Under the Running Board. Released by Relapse in the spring of '98, this now-infamous recording perfectly encapsulated what would become the bands eclectic sound -- mixing elements of grindcore, avant-garde jazz, death metal and hardcore into a distinctly new whole. The record received rave reviews, and the Plan once again toured heavily. With their lineup stabilized, the group began writing and recording their “official” debut album, Calculating Infinity, which was even more over-the-top and mind-blowing than Running Board. Released during the fall of '99, the album has been heralded as “the future of heavy metal.” |
