Welcome !
    Corey Glover
Bands mixing hard rock, rap, and funk are now commonplace, but in the ‘80s, these hybrids were rarer than a picture of Madonna that didn’t show her navel. Living Colour was just such a boundary-breaking group, and its frontman, Corey Glover, delivered passionate performances that complemented the driving guitar pyrotechnics of Vernon Reid. The quartet -- which also included drummer Will Calhoun and bassist Muzz Skillings -- fused jazz and funk grooves with potent rock attitude and energy. Its 1988 Epic Records debut, Vivid, landed in the Top Ten and went on to double-platinum sales; its first single, “Cult of Personality,” won the band a Grammy. In 1990, the Grammies recognized the quartet again, this time for its sophomore album Time’s Up, which featured guest appearances by everyone from Little Richard to Queen Latifah to Maceo Parker. Biscuits followed in 1991, one year before Skillings departed to be replaced by Doug Wimbish, a member of the Sugar Hill Records house band that played on hits by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Living Color lasted for one more full-length, 1993’s Stain, before disbanding in early 1995, just as Epic released the greatest-hits compilation Pride. Glover soon launched a solo career, joining with guitarist Mike Ciro and bassist Booker King to play live shows while writing songs with Family Stand members Peter Lord and V. Jeffrey Smith. The result was the 1998 LaFace Records album Hymns, which took Glover and his band around the world. As they worked on a follow-up, the group decided to give itself a name, an indication of its collaborative spirit. The members chose Vice in May, 2000, and soon recorded a nine-track live record, available through Emusic.com.
