But it was his later, European-styled techno tracks that ultimately brought him fame. He first achieved success in 1988 with his single "Energy Flash," released on Detroit's seminal techno label Transmat; he followed up that hit with "Mantasm" in 1992. "Mantasm" in particular made Beltram a big hit with Belgian techno enthusiasts. In 1994, Beltram confounded expectations with Aonox, a full-length release of ambient music. He returned to the acid and techno fold with 1995's Places and 1996's Close Grind.
