Swayzak
Swayzak, the London-based duo of James Taylor and David Brown, began playing together in 1994, though it would be three years before friends could convince them to take their experimental instrumentation and recording techniques out of their basement studio and into the public eye. Taking their name from a bastardization of Patrick Swayze’s surname, the deep house dub sound of their 1997 EP, Bueno, met with both critical and commercial success in the UK. A chance meeting in a record store led to the Medicine Label picking up Swayzak’s 1998 full-length debut, Snowboarding in Argentina. Again a commercial success in the UK, the album also received significant critical attention both at home and in the US, where Mixer voted it Album of the Year. After a quick collaboration with Theorem, the duo released their second full-length, Himawari, early in 2000. |
