Drivin' N' Cryin'
The pride and joy of Atlanta, GA, Drivin' N' Cryin' has been refining its own unique brand of guitar-rock for the better part of fifteen years. Led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Kevn Kinney, DNC specializes in making music that's loud, passionate, poetic, and deeply steeped in its Southern roots -- in other words, kinda like if Lynyrd Skynyrd had gone to grad school. Hotly tipped as a "next big thing" during the music industry's post-REM feeding frenzy, DNC signed to Island in 1988 and released several excellent records; but despite good reviews and a reputation for jaw-dropping live shows, the band never seemed to catch on north of the Mason-Dixon line. Despite the lack of commercial reinforcement, Kinney, bassist Tim Neilsen, and drummer Jeff Sullivan have remained true to their mission; their most recent album, Essential Drivin' N Cryin' Live, was released in late 1999. |
