Otis Rush
Born in 1934 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, Otis Rush migrated north to Chicago while still in his teens, and established himself as a top draw on the Windy City blues scene by the time he hit his early twenties. Though every bit as talented as Buddy Guy (perhaps his number one contemporary and competitor), Rush never quite managed to score the same sort of breaks; for much of his career, the left-handed guitarist was plagued by personal problems and poor professional choices, which in turn manifested themselves in an uneven recording history. Rush made a solid comeback in 1994, with the release of Ain't Enough Coming In, his first complete studio album since the late '70s. His 1998 CD, Any Place I'm Going, wound up on many critics' year-end lists, and he continues to wow concert audiences the world over with his soulful and dextrous guitar playing. |
