The quintet won a rock-band search contest on a local radio station, and proceeded to use the prize money to record their first album, Letters From Chutney. In early 1998, after a change in drummers and band name, Finger Eleven released their “official” debut album, Tip, on Mercury Records in Canada. New York-based label Wind-Up Records wound up releasing the album stateside later that fall.
