Stickfigure
Anaheim Angels pitcher "Black Jack" McDowell is better known for his exploits on the baseball diamond - he won the American League Cy Young Award in 1993 as a member of the Chicago White Sox - than on the concert stage. But McDowell has stayed serious about making music during his career. He formed his first band, V.I.E.W., in the late 80’s. The group self-released a CD and opened for The Smithereens during a 1991 tour, during which time McDowell became friends with Smithereens bassist Mike Mesaros and tour engineer Mike Hamilton, who also played guitar. They joined McDowell along with ex-Del Lords drummer Frank Funaro in 1994, and the quartet became Stickfigure. |

When Angels pitcher Jack McDowell isn't tormenting batters with his nasty fastball, he's playing frontman for a punk rock band. Sounds like he got some vocal tips from his rock star buddies. Listen to the track and you'll figure out who they are.
