Bluebird
Bluebird is based around the nucleus of Jim and Bryan Brown, brothers from the American southwest that have been playing together as a rhythm duo since they were kids. By the mid-'90s, the Brown brothers started playing improvised sets around the Los Angeles area. Through these gigs, they met singer/percussionist Samuel Velde, and quickly thereafter were joined by old friend Barry Gordon Thomas on guitar, rounding out the band as a foursome. Combining experimentation and improvisation with a straight ahead, high energy rock sound, Bluebird have been unafraid to use unusual instrumentation in their music, including accordions, vibraphones, and timbaleros. This fusion of experimentation and energy has led to invitations to open for the likes of Fugazi, X, and the Foo Fighters, among others. The band has released two well-received EPs (1997's self-titled effort on Revelation Records, and 1998's High Atmosphere on Lovitt) and two seven-inches, and is currently at work on a full-length, tentatively titled The Two. They also recently teamed up with legendary guitarist Wayne Kramer to record "Beautiful Believer," a new song available exclusively at MUSICBLITZ.
