Welcome !
    Lexxus
One of dancehall’s most dynamic DJs, the 24-year-old Lexxus seems to some like an overnight success. In fact, he’s been in the music business for close to a decade, and was written off by some in his native Jamaica before making a stunning comeback. He grew up in a garrisoned community in East Kingston as Christopher Palmer, a class clown who was entertaining crowds from an early age. After joining the award-winning dance troupe Squad One, the outgoing Lexxus made the natural jump to deejaying at age 16. He headed up dances for the Super Dee sound system and soon had a dancehall hit with 1992’s “Own A Home.” But he found it hard to recapture that momentum, and it took him five frustrating years to hit the charts again, which he did in 1997 after working with famed producers Steely and Clevie. However, it took a phenomenal 3 a.m. set at 1998’s Sting, Kingston’s annual year-end dancehall blowout, to cement Lexxus’ rebuilt rep. Soon he was once again a hot name, burning up the charts with “Ring Mi Cellie,” a racy “you know where to find me” invitation to the ladies in 1999. And as his reputation grew, Lexxus got to duet with dancehall legend Lady Saw, whom he’d namechecked (a little obscenely) on “Cellie.” His hit string stayed intact in 2000 with “Cook,” an ode to home-cooked vittles, and his first proper album, Mr. Lex, released in 1999, collected the aforementioned singles plus “Let Those Monkeys Out,” a tough new nugget of hip-hop inspired dancehall. But Lexxus’ real goal -- besides a Grammy or three -- is to star on the silver screen. Given his charisma on wax, who’s to say he won’t?
