The Fairfax, Virginia sextet boasts an eclectic assortment of influences, primarily funk, funk, and more funk, reggae, dancehall, swing, ska, rap, jazz, and a solid helping of good old fashioned classic rock, courtesy of guitarists Scott Meyers and Daniel Domiquez. Amazingly, the group’s songs segue seamlessly between all of these disparate styles -- sometimes all in the space of a few bars. First formed in 1996 through an ongoing basement jam session, the group went through countless evolutions and refinements over the years, finally finding their groove in the summer of ’99 with the addition of vocalist/rapper Mookie Thornton, and keyboardist Aaron Nugent, whose songwriting skills and strident vocals gave them a new focus.
